PREPARING FOR THE BIRTH OF A CHILD
- Babies Born Healthy - The Babies Born Healthy (BBH) Program helps low income, uninsured and underinsured pregnant women in Georgia receive comprehensive, quality, prenatal services as early as possible in their pregnancy. Services are provided through partnerships with local providers, such as physicians, nurses, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, social workers, and health educators and are available for women who are not eligible for Medicaid or other health care coverage. Babies Born Healthy pays for prenatal care, hospital delivery, limited newborn care for eligible women, and case management services in their health districts. Services are provided through partnerships with local providers, such as physicians, nurses, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, social workers, and health educators.

- Healthy Families Georgia – Provides a continuum of services consisting of short-term support for all new families through First Steps and long-term voluntary home visitation for more vulnerable families of newborns. Healthy Families Georgia is a collaborative effort of Prevent Child Abuse Georgia and the Georgia Children's Trust Fund. The program is unique because it brings together an initial connection with all parents and voluntary home visitation for higher-risk new families. - Regional Perinatal System - Provides and ensures an appropriate, accessible high-risk perinatal and neonatal health care system that meets the needs of high risk infants and women in Georgia. Perinatal is defined as the period from conception to four weeks postpartum. Neonatal is the first 28 days of an infant’s life. The program provides funding to six designated regional tertiary hospitals to provide high-risk perinatal services including, transportation, prenatal care, delivery, post-partum care, and newborn care. Tertiary hospitals also provide outreach and education to area providers to ensure a seamless community- based system.

- Resource Mothers Program- The Resource Mothers Program connects experienced mothers with pregnant and parenting teenagers who need guidance and support within the state of Georgia. Resource Mothers, volunteers and staff provide information on pregnancy, early prenatal care, parenting skills, child care, and health issues. The program also links teen mothers and their infants to community and public health resources such as Children 1st, Babies Can’t Wait, Children’s Medical Services, Adolescent Health and Youth Development, STD services, and Family Planning.
